 23 Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.

INTRODUCTION

• BACKGROUND
• Although we are skipping the greatest part of Genesis chapter 40 in order to go faster in our survey on the Bible, but all that transpires in chapter 41 is in direct correlation to chapter 40.
• We know that the time that Joseph spent in prison exceeded two years.
• The favor of God was upon Joseph while he was in prison.
• When one’s conscience is free from guilt, physical bonds cannot have any significant bearings upon his personality.
• Joseph turned into the most trusted and the most caring assistant to the guard of the prison.
• In fact, Joseph was the one running the prison.
• Joseph brought the peace of mind to everyone around him.
• The very prison episode of Joseph was strategic to the next move of God upon his life.
• Joseph was in an elite prison, meaning that most of the prisoners had some kinds of connection with the Pharaoh.
• Joseph’s caring nature was instrumental to his next breakthrough.
• While Joseph was in prison, he was a cheer leader to the other prisoners.
• When Joseph noticed that two of the prisoners were perplexed about something he enquired about it in aim to mend their spirits.
• A selfless person always thinks of ways to smooth other’s pain while ignoring his.
• Ge 40:6 Joseph, étant venu le matin vers eux, les regarda; et voici, ils étaient tristes.
•  7 Alors il questionna les officiers de Pharaon, qui étaient avec lui dans la prison de son maître, et il leur dit: Pourquoi avez-vous mauvais visage aujourd’hui?
• We can see that Joseph did not go around bragging of his gift of dream interpretation.
• It was only revealed when the time was right.
• Joseph had to be truthful although he had to break the heart of one of the companions with the sad revelation of his forthcoming execution.
• The interpretation of Joseph of the dreams of the two prisoners were corrects.
• One was elevated back to dignity and the other was hung on the third day.

THE FORGOTTEN PLEA OF JOSEPH

Ge 40:14 Mais souviens-toi de moi, quand tu seras heureux, et montre, je te prie, de la bonté à mon égard; parle en ma faveur à Pharaon, et fais-moi sortir de cette maison.

 15 Car j’ai été enlevé du pays des Hébreux, et ici même je n’ai rien fait pour être mis en prison.

• People of destiny never cease to be amazed of the ungratefulness of some of the people whom they have help along the way.
• The exit of the prisoners occurred just as Joseph predicted.
• The execution of one and the exaltation of the other happened just as Joseph predicted.
• The surviving ex-fellow prisoner forgot all about Joseph, but God did not forget about Joseph.
• Two years had passed since their release and Joseph had not heard of him.
• God has a mysterious way to make people remember things at the right time.
• Remember how the king remembered about the good deed of Mordecai at the very day that Haman came to ask for permission to hang him.
• God’s timing is the best timing.
• God made sure that Joseph’s name was mentioned to the Pharaoh in a grander scale than anyone could imagine. 

THE DREAM OF PHAROH

Ge 41:1 ¶ Au bout de deux ans, Pharaon eut un songe. Voici, il se tenait près du fleuve.

 2 Et voici, sept vaches belles à voir et grasses de chair montèrent hors du fleuve, et se mirent à paître dans la prairie.

 3 Sept autres vaches laides à voir et maigres de chair montèrent derrière elles hors du fleuve, et se tinrent à leurs côtés sur le bord du fleuve.

 4 Les vaches laides à voir et maigres de chair mangèrent les sept vaches belles à voir et grasses de chair. Et Pharaon s’éveilla.

 5 Il se rendormit, et il eut un second songe. Voici, sept épis gras et beaux montèrent sur une même tige.

 6 Et sept épis maigres et brûlés par le vent d’orient poussèrent après eux.

 7 Les épis maigres engloutirent les sept épis gras et pleins. Et Pharaon s’éveilla. Voilà le songe.

 8 Le matin, Pharaon eut l’esprit agité, et il fit appeler tous les magiciens et tous les sages de l’Égypte. Il leur raconta ses songes. Mais personne ne put les expliquer à Pharaon.

 9 ¶ Alors le chef des échansons prit la parole, et dit à Pharaon: Je vais rappeler aujourd’hui le souvenir de ma faute.

 10 Pharaon s’était irrité contre ses serviteurs; et il m’avait fait mettre en prison dans la maison du chef des gardes, moi et le chef des panetiers.

 11 Nous eûmes l’un et l’autre un songe dans une même nuit; et chacun de nous reçut une explication en rapport avec le songe qu’il avait eu.

 12 Il y avait là avec nous un jeune Hébreu, esclave du chef des gardes. Nous lui racontâmes nos songes, et il nous les expliqua.

 13 Les choses sont arrivées selon l’explication qu’il nous avait donnée. Pharaon me rétablit dans ma charge, et il fit pendre le chef des panetiers.

 14 Pharaon fit appeler Joseph. On le fit sortir en hâte de prison. Il se rasa, changea de vêtements, et se rendit vers Pharaon.

• There is no surprise or coincidence for God.
• It’s God who orchestrates the events of our lives.
• Everything that was about to happened to Joseph had already been predicted by God to Abraham.
• Your people will spend 400 years in a foreign land before returning to the promise Land.
• The human element in all of us cannot steer the conceived plans of God.
• The wrongs and the goods done to Joseph only to propel him all the more toward his destiny.
• No one can overrule the appointed time of God.
• We the Children of God need to be always on alert for God’s next move in our lives.
• Never allow the evil you endure in your yesterdays to cause you to disengage on your glorious journey for tomorrow.
• Back in the days, people used to depend on favorable winds to navigate by sea.
• Likewise, God’s favorable wind toward our destiny usually come s when we least expect it.
• The Pharaoh had a very confusing dream not once but twice on that fateful night.
• Two graphic dreams but one explanation.
• Ge 41:3 Then behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ugly and gaunt, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river.
•  4 And the ugly and gaunt cows ate up the seven fine looking and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.
• At first, seven beautiful and fat cows appeared
• Next after that, seven detestable and skinny cows showed up and devoured the good cows, and the king woke up.
• The Pharaoh might have been puzzled about the dream, gave it some thought and went back to sleep.
• Ge 41:5 He slept and dreamed a second time; and suddenly seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, plump and good.
•  6 Then behold, seven thin heads, blighted by the east wind, sprang up after them.
•  7 And the seven thin heads devoured the seven plump and full heads. So Pharaoh awoke, and indeed, it was a dream.
• The second dream is identical to the first one.
• The number seven reoccurred again.
• The seven good came first to be followed by seven bad.
• The bad ones devoured the good ones in both dreams.
• 8 Le matin, Pharaon eut l’esprit agité, et il fit appeler tous les magiciens et tous les sages de l’Égypte. Il leur raconta ses songes. Mais personne ne put les expliquer à Pharaon.
• All of the wise men of Egypt were summoned to interpret the dream to no avail.
• No one could solve that puzzle because God had hid it from their understanding.
• You could picture a room filled with so called wise men trying to decode the dream of the king to no avail.
• In Egypt, we are not talking about fake magicians here.
• We are talking of people who could mimic the ten plagues of God all the way to the forth one.
• The Pharaoh had every right to be irritated because these wise men were on his payroll.
• Everyone was busy looking for as many wise men they could find from the land to bring to the Pharaoh.
• All a sudden someone chilled the room with the revelation that there is someone in the land that can surely interpret the dream.
• “I know one more wise guy, a foreigner, a slave, a Hebrew, a prisoner. His name is Joseph.”
• Joseph is the sharpest dream interpreter that I have ever seen.
• The ungrateful man was forced to explain how he met Joseph and how Joseph predicted his future with perfect accuracy.
• For Joseph on the other hand, it was just another routine day.
• God must have been super exited because He knew that it was Joseph’s big day,
• No one could phantom the enormity of the impact of the events that were about to take place on the day Joseph walked out of that prison cell.
• The whole Egyptian Empire took a different trajectory after Joseph was introduced to the scene.
• The Pharaoh had landed on the most brilliant and anointed mind of his time.
• There was a small problem still to be solved before Joseph could meet the Pharaoh.
• Joseph was not presentable in appearance.
• The whole prison had to proudly assist their best comrade to get ready for his big day.
• Underneath of the shackles and the stains of the prison was a beautiful man.
• Take away the dirty clothes; shave the ugly beards, cut the untamed hair, put a nice apparel on him and Joseph was ready for the occasion.
• You may not look like your destiny as we speak, but that can quickly be arranged.
• All you need is the favor of God.
• God can boost the memory of the right person to remember you in the most prolific moment.
• May God cause your name to pop in the great circles of influence and opportunities!
• Get ready to walk chin up toward the destiny that God has for your life.
• .AMEN!
• NEXT TIME God willing, we will see how Joseph handled the situation with the king

Que répondait le prophète Elisée   à l’officier du roi qui ne croyait pas que Dieu pourrait délivrer Israël de la famine au lendemain ? 2Ki 7:2 L’officier sur la main duquel s’appuyait le roi répondit à l’homme de Dieu: Quand l’Éternel ferait des fenêtres au ciel, pareille chose arriverait-elle? Et Élisée dit: Tu le verras de tes yeux; mais tu n’en mangeras point.
2. Comment mourrait cet officier qui ne croyait pas à la prophétie du prophète ? 2 Rois 7 : 17b « Cet officier fut écrasé à la porte par le peuple et il mourut, selon la parole qu’avait prononcée l’homme de Dieu quand le roi était descendu vers lui. »
