GOD HATES DIVORCE

DIEU HAIT LE DIVORCE

LECTURE: Eph 5:28,  1Co 7:10-11

28 C’est ainsi que les maris doivent aimer leurs femmes comme leurs propres corps. Celui qui aime sa femme s’aime lui-même. (LSV)

28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. (NKJV)

1Co 7:10-11

10 ¶ But to the married I give orders, though not I but the Lord, that the wife may not go away from her husband

 11 (Or if she goes away from him, let her keep unmarried, or be united to her husband again); and that the husband may not go away from his wife.

 11 (si elle est séparée, qu’elle demeure sans se marier ou qu’elle se réconcilie avec son mari), et que le mari ne répudie point sa femme.

INTRODUCTION

• As we go further in this series of messages on the family, I want to devote ample time to talk about divorce.
• Divorce is a plague that is battling our generation and that is causing a great psychological imbalance in the lives of a great many people.
• There is no way a divorce can happen without causing a massive rupture in the lives of those affected.
• Be it the couple, the children, the extended family members, the friends, the church, the grand children, and the list goes on; all are affected by a divorce.
• Since modern men have polluted the marriage institution by its redefinition to make it the union of any two entities adding even animals in the mix, then the divorce statistic is not as holistic as we would wish it.
• Another factor that is aimed to incur a great damage to the marriage institution is cohabitation.
• While marriages are fewer apart these days, we are now faced with the great rate of divorce that is plaguing an institution that was already in peril.
• Today, we will pounder on the family as a gift from God; we will see the drifting process and how to avoid it.
• We will see the marriage as a living organism that needs proper care to survive.
• We will see what God has to say about divorce and what is to follow after divorce.  

THE FAMILY: ONE OF GOD’S GREASTEST BLESSINGS TO MANKIND

• As we pounder upon God’s infinite wisdom, we discover that God has used a multiple of ways for reproduction.
• In the botanical world, most of the time, reproduction occurs by seed.
• Some plants can be reproduced by putting its branch in the ground.
• Some other plants reproduce by roots.
• Some plants cast their seeds in the air and the wind carries them to the four corners of the world.
• In the animal kingdom reproduction varies.
• Some species lay eggs and walk or fly or swim away. The offspring is left to itself to figure out life and to survive.
• Some species are attached to their offspring for a short period and then they release them.
• Some rare species maintain a prolong relationship with their offspring.
• Of all the models that God could have used for human reproduction, He chooses the structure of a permanent family bond.
• The ideal family maintains a strong bond and cares for the grandparents, the parents, the children, the grand children and the great grand children.
• God designs the human family to replicate the divine family.
• Love is the bonding agent that God uses to keep the families united.
• The mystery of two people falling in love can only be explained by God.
• How two people who were once complete strangers to become inseparable by love;
• The deep sentiment of love and passion culminates in marriage which is a permanent union;
• Two formerly strangers, fall in love and begin a family; the family becomes a clan; the clan then becomes a nation; the nation can even become an empire.
• To everyone’s surprise, the dream of a happy family has become a fantasy, a wishful thinking.
• The picturesque future the couples forecast for themselves often becomes a nightmare.
• The union that was supposed to foster joy, contentment and happiness often becomes the very source of anguish and distaste in life.
• The happily, happily ever after become the fantasy of day dreamers.

THE DRIFTING PROCESS

• The drifting can happen so slowly and so unnoticeably to allow most of the damages to slip in without countering it with any defensive response.
• At some point in time, Satan manages to convince couples that their marriages are not worth fighting for.
• Some spare the effort to fix their marriages because they become convinced that their spouses can never change.
• Some blame each other as the sole cause of the rupture of the marriage.
• Some want out of the marriage so that they can try the journey with another partner.
• The grass always seems so much greener in the other side of the fences.
• Just as people signs loans and decide to forgo their obligations to pay back, many people enter into marriage and soon thereafter forget the engagement that they took.
• Because the institution of marriage is no longer respected, many venture in with no sense of real commitment.

THINK ABOUT THAT

• What if the people who spent money in your marriage had the right to sue you if you get divorced?
•  What if the church, the pastor, the parents could impose a penalty on you if you get divorced.
• What if your children could sue you for the damages that the divorce will project on them?
• What if it was illegal to ever fall in love again as long as that person you married to is still alive?
• What if your job, your credit, your profession, your money were affected by the divorce; would you be so prone to consider divorce.
• What if you were gripped by the fear of God to consider that God solemnly declares, “I hate divorce”; would you be eager or hesitant to push the divorce button?

MINDSET, CIRCUMSTANCES AND ACTIONS

• In Cuba, because of the enforced US embargo and after the fall of the Soviet Union, People did not have a chance to participate in the open market of automobiles; consequently, people got stuck with their old cars.
• Knowing that the option of buying new cars was out of the equation for most, the Cubans became creative in preserving their old cars.
• Consequently, you can now find Fifty years old cars and older all over the streets in Cuba.
• Some import parts from other cars and make them feet their old cars in order to keep them rolling because they don’t have the luxury to go down to the dealership and trade their present cars.
• If people took seriously the oath of marriage, they would strive to find ways to keep it alive.
• Just as these old cars are still climbing the hills and clearing their paths in the high highways due to the misfortune of the embargo, so could marriages strive if couples could understand that they are bonded for life. 
• In the free world, as one is having the minutest problem with his car, he is already shopping for another car.
• Once you set your mind to change your car, any little problem becomes magnified in your eyes as to validate why this car must go.
• You now have problem with the color of paint; you now have problem with the size of the car; you now have problem with its fuel consumption; it now matters that it doesn’t have all the accessories of the modern cars.
• The people who are in love with antique cars never complaint of any of these problems.
• They pimp their antique cars to keep them alive.
• They take them to exhibition show.
• They excel the original value of their cars by their constant cares.

MARRIAGE IS A LIVING ORGANISM THAT NEEDS TO BE NURTURED TO SURVIVE

• Marriage can be compared to a plant.
• It needs sunshine to survive
• It needs water to survive
• It needs fertilizer to survive
• It needs pruning to survive
• It needs a safe and nutritious environment to survive.
• It need weather protection to survive.
• It needs outside support at times to survive especially after a storm.
• It need dedication and care to survive.
• It needs patience to wait for its yields.
• It needs care in collecting its fruits.
• It needs favorable seasons to blossom and to bear fruits.
• It needs patience, tolerance, and compassion in the years that are barren.
• So many want to call the tree service to eradicate a tree that is just waiting for the right season to blossom.

• If only people did not rust so fast to divorce many marriages would hit their best seasons in the years ahead.
• I often watch divorce parents admiring the achievements of their children together. While it calls for a family celebration, the lives of one or both are already complicated with a stranger in the mix.
• I’ve often watched divorced parents acting weird at graduations and weddings, sport events, etc where the occasion calls for a family hug and celebration but there is a wall between the two parents.
• If only they could have gotten over the bumps and indifferences without calling it a quit, the weather would clear at some point, the pressure would ease by now, and the stress would be more manageable in time.

IS DIVORCE THE ANSWER?

• It would be completely unfair and insensible to say that divorce is never the answer.
• There are abusing situations that call for an immediate divorce for the wellbeing of all parties.
• The alarming factor is that divorce as become a very convenient escape in our days.
• The greatest majority of marriages that end up in divorce could have been repaired if only the couple would commit to it.
• If only married people knew how to call for help, the house would not be burned to the ground.
• All the neighbors could play their parts in throwing buckets of water on the fire like they used to do in the old days.
• What about the kids?
• What about the faith?
• What about your testimony to the world?
• What about the future?
• What about the loneliness of old age?
• What about the grandchildren?
• What about the millions of continuous affects that it will have in the future generations?
•  Are you sure that you will be better apart?
• What about God?
• What about Mark 10 verse 9

Mr 10:9 “Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” (NKJV)

• If divorce seems like the best option available to you, be careful.
• God may not choose to bless you with another opportunity after the way you treated and ended the first one He gave you.

CONCLUSION

• Marriages need redemptions at time.
• Those who consent to keep their old cars often have to do an overall in the car.
• They refurbish the engine and transmission; they cover the seats;
• They take care of the linings; some buy new rims; they do a good paint job;
•  They take of all the dust in the undercarriage of the car.
• Old ugly marriages can be refined.
• Start with the Word of God this time.
• Cherish the good old days.
• Take pride together over the raising of the kids.
• Enjoy and support one another.
• Bring the romance back in the equation.
• Grow old together.
• Finish the race together.
