I WAS BLIND BUT NOW I SEE

Jean 9:30 Cet homme leur répondit: Il est étonnant que vous ne sachiez d’où il est; et cependant il m’a ouvert les yeux.

John 9:30 The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!

Jean 9 : 1-7

1 ¶ Jésus vit, en passant, un homme aveugle de naissance.

 2 Ses disciples lui firent cette question: Rabbi, qui a péché, cet homme ou ses parents, pour qu’il soit né aveugle?

 3 Jésus répondit: Ce n’est pas que lui ou ses parents aient péché; mais c’est afin que les œuvres de Dieu soient manifestées en lui.

 4 Il faut que je fasse, tandis qu’il est jour, les œuvres de celui qui m’a envoyé; la nuit vient, où personne ne peut travailler.

 5 Pendant que je suis dans le monde, je suis la lumière du monde.

 6 Après avoir dit cela, il cracha à terre, et fit de la boue avec sa salive. Puis il appliqua cette boue sur les yeux de l’aveugle,

 7 et lui dit: Va, et lave-toi au réservoir de Siloé (nom qui signifie envoyé). Il y alla, se lava, et s’en retourna voyant clair.

Joh 9:1 ¶ Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.

 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.

 4 “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.

 5 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

 6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.

 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

INTRODUCTION

• Jean 9 raconte de la guérison d’un aveugle. / The healing a certain blind man.
• Pas quelqu’un qui devint aveugle, mais d’un aveugle né. / A man born blind
• Sans un system social comme les Etats Unis, cet homme devint un mendiant. (Blind beggar)
• Tout le monde d’alentour le savait. / he was a well known beggar in the town
• Peut être, il avait ses propres clichés. « Pitié, pitié, Souplé ! », « Grangou nan Vant pa dous », (Mercy)
• Pense un peu de sa dépendance des autres. (His dependance on others)
  • Pour son repas / For food
  • Pour sa toilette / For bath
  • Pour se naviguer dans les rues. / For navigation
• Peut être était il sujet de tant de moquerie. (laughing stock)
  • De la part des enfants / children
  • De la part des méchants / evil doers
  • De la part des autres pauvres. Fellow beggars
• Il était certainement jugé par ceux qui le voyaient. (People passing by were judging him too.)

WHY WAS HE BORN BLIND? / WHO HAS SINNED, HIM OR HIS PARENTS?

• La conception d’alors envers un handicapé, c’était que ce dernier aurait été sous le joug du jugement de Dieu pour des fautes commises.
• The common thinking of that day that everyone suffering was under the judgment of God.
• The disciples had it wrong also, but they were questioning the fairness of God since this man had no chance to sin.
• Les disciples voulaient comprendre la source du jugement puisqu’il était né aveugle.
• Sans qu’il n’ait la chance de pécher contre Dieu, comment ce fait-il qu’il subissait le châtiment de Dieu était l’implication de la question des disciples.

THE DISCIPLES WANTED TO KNOW IF CURSES WERE TRANSFERABLE FROM PARENTS TO KIDS

• Les Disciples voulaient savoir si les châtiments de Dieu sont transférables des parents aux enfants.
• Comment avoir pitié de celui que Dieu condamne déjà ?
• Internally the disciples were puzzled about the justice of God in this case.

THE SOCIAL CONDITION OF THIS BLIND MAN

• Pense à sa condition sociale.
  • Sans éducation / no education
  • Sans argent / no money
  • Sans aucun rang social / no status
  • Juste un mendiant / a beggar
  • Juste un aveugle / a blind man
  • Juste un invalide / a liability to society
  • Exclu de la synagogue / excluded from the House of God

 

• Pense à son futur
  • Les mêmes choses
  • Le même métier
  • Il était déjà un adulte.
• Cet homme n’avait plus rien à perdre./ this man was already in the bottom shelf
• Son futur était déjà peint en noir. / His future was already doomed.
• Sa mémoire alla si vite être effacée dans l’histoire pensait-on.

Jésus répondit aux Disciples :

Jean 9:3 Jésus répondit: Ce n’est pas que lui ou ses parents aient péché; mais c’est afin que les œuvres de Dieu soient manifestées en lui.

3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.

• Don’t we all complain over situations that were imposed to us without any justification?
• Many think that life is unfair.
• Many feel unlucky.
• Many think that God is partial.
• This man had every reason to think that he was predestined to suffer.
• Why was I born in a poor family?
• Why am I so tall or so short, or so big or so skinny, or so dark, or so pale, or Haitian, and the list goes on.
• Why am I so sick all the time?
• Why didn’t I have long curly hair, or this or that body shape?
• Why life has to be so harsh on me?
• Why is God punishing me?

ALL ILLS ARE THE RESULT OF THE FALL TO SIN

• The world we live in is imperfect
• Our parents are imperfect
• We too are imperfect
• Our children are imperfect
• All our systems are broken and imperfect
• We patch life everyday to try to make it to the next day.
• All of us are sick to some degree
• All of us will die someday, either by sickness of accidents.
• We are all growing old and weak.
• Imperfection, suffering, sickness, evil, injustices and all the ills of life are the common plights of all man living in this fallen world.
• Yet, there are some who seem to be getting a greater share of the ills of life.
• Some seem more under the gun than others.
• Being born blind or with any infirmity seems like a low blow from life.

JESUS CONFIRMED THAT THE MAN WAS BORN BLIND FOR THE GLORY OF GOD

• God can be and must be glorified in our infirmities.
• Some level of reliance upon God can only be fostered by our infirmities.
• Out of your great tests in life will blossom your great testimonies.
• Your before and after pictures should bring glory to God.
• The depth of your destitute will add value to the peak of your glory.
• People of humble beginnings who have managed to make it to prominence have more to tell about their journey than those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
• This born blind man afforded Jesus a great teaching moment for all believers in all ages, to know that God is to be glorified in all the happenings in the life of His Children regardless how good or bad they look to the eye.
• This man afforded Jesus a great confrontation with the religious rulers who were a stumbling block to the furtherance of the Gospel.
• This man afforded Jesus the opportunity to show the power and the compassion of God for all creatures regardless of race or creed.
• This man afforded the Lord an opportunity to straight the mind of all people concerning suffering, for it is so easy to judge and victimize an innocent person because of his situation.
• Because of this man, all people who are born with physical or mental limitations or other disabilities don’t have to feel that they are hated and rejected by God.

THE IMMEDIATE EFFECT OF THE HEALING OF THIS BLIND MAN

• Tous ceux qui le voyaient étaient dans l’étonnement.
• Il devint un sujet de confusion
  • Jean 9:8-11 ¶ Ses voisins et ceux qui auparavant l’avaient connu comme un mendiant disaient: N’est-ce pas là celui qui se tenait assis et qui mendiait?
  • 9 Les uns disaient: C’est lui. D’autres disaient: Non, mais il lui ressemble. Et lui-même disait: C’est moi.
  • 10 Ils lui dirent donc: Comment tes yeux ont-ils été ouverts?
  • 11 Il répondit: L’homme qu’on appelle Jésus a fait de la boue, a oint mes yeux, et m’a dit: Va au réservoir de Siloé, et lave-toi. J’y suis allé, je me suis lavé, et j’ai recouvré la vue.
• La guérison de L’aveugle attirait de la jalousie.
• La guérison de l’aveugle attirait des menaces.
• La guérison de l’aveugle attirait des intimidations.
• La guérison de l’aveugle attirait des conflits.

 

• How nice to have everybody talking about you with astonishment.
• How nice to see that you can no longer be associated by your sickness.
• How nice to see that you can now register in society as a normal person.
• How nice to that you are the subject of great attention.
• How nice to see that God use you as an object lesson to display His omnipotence to an unbelieving generation.

THE CONFRONTATION WITH THE RELIGIOUS RULES

• Jean 9:13-16 ¶ Ils menèrent vers les pharisiens celui qui avait été aveugle.
• 14 Or, c’était un jour de sabbat que Jésus avait fait de la boue, et lui avait ouvert les yeux.
• 15 De nouveau, les pharisiens aussi lui demandèrent comment il avait recouvré la vue. Et il leur dit: Il a appliqué de la boue sur mes yeux, je me suis lavé, et je vois.
• 16 Sur quoi quelques-uns des pharisiens dirent: Cet homme ne vient pas de Dieu, car il n’observe pas le sabbat. D’autres dirent: Comment un homme pécheur peut-il faire de tels miracles? (9:17) Et il y eut division parmi eux.

• Be careful of the religious rulers in the day of your deliverance.
• Many feel that God should confine to their doctrinal persuasions before He operates.
• Jesus was judged for healing this man on the Sabbath day.
• Jesus was accused of being from the devil because he did not observe the Sabbath.
• Some people go to church on the Sabbath day and some other people still worship the Sabbath day in the same manner of the religious rulers in Jesus’ days. To the last, all non Sabbath keepers are from the devil.
• Regardless of how God is being glorified in the life of a person, if it is not in line with the Sabbath, according to them, it cannot be right.
• Il y a des gens qui sont plus royalistes que même le Roi.

VAINES TENTATIVES POUR INTIMIDER L’AVEUGLE NE

• L’intimidation ne valait rien pour l’aveugle.
• Pensez-vous lui exclure du temple ? il en fut déjà toute sa vie !
• Pensez-vous lui défendre de demander l’aumône dans ce lieu ? Il n’a plus besoin de cela ; il est capable de travailler maintenant.
• Pensez-vous lui convaincre qu’il serait maudit ? Il vivait déjà toute sa vie sous ces impressions !
• Pensez-vous lui faire taire par vos rangs ecclésiastiques ? Il a déjà rencontré Celui qui était plus grand même qu’Abraham et Moise ; et Celui-ci lui a ouvert les yeux !
• Pas de remède pour quelqu’un comme lui.

Jean 9:24 Les pharisiens appelèrent une seconde fois l’homme qui avait été aveugle, et ils lui dirent: Donne gloire à Dieu; nous savons que cet homme est un pécheur.

 25 Il répondit: S’il est un pécheur, je ne sais; je sais une chose, c’est que j’étais aveugle et que maintenant je vois.

Joh 9:25 He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

26 Ils lui dirent: Que t’a-t-il fait? Comment t’a-t-il ouvert les yeux?

27 Il leur répondit: Je vous l’ai déjà dit, et vous n’avez pas écouté; pourquoi voulez-vous l’entendre encore? Voulez-vous aussi devenir ses disciples?

• Quelle arrogance de répliquer de la sorte aux pharisiens
• Quelle question énervante et perçante : « Voulez-vous aussi devenir ses disciples? »

28 Ils l’injurièrent et dirent: C’est toi qui es son disciple; nous, nous sommes disciples de Moïse.

29 Nous savons que Dieu a parlé à Moïse; mais celui-ci, nous ne savons d’où il est.

30 Cet homme leur répondit: Il est étonnant que vous ne sachiez d’où il est; et cependant il m’a ouvert les yeux.

• Les pharisiens étaient embarrassés par cet homme.
• Il n’avait aucun égard de leur apparence sacrée.
• Il refusait d’accepter que Jésus pourrait être un pécheur.
• Il osa leur proposer de devenir eux aussi disciples de Jésus.
• Il étala son argument par ces paroles célèbres « je sais une chose, c’est que j’étais aveugle et que maintenant je vois.»
• « Il est étonnant que vous ne sachiez d’où il est; et cependant il m’a ouvert les yeux.»
• L’argument d’un témoin oculaire est incontestable.
• L’argument d’un bénéficiaire d’une grâce est indisputable.
• Chaque Chrétien possède un témoignage pareil.
• Chaque personne née de nouveau droit pouvoir dire avec assurance et fierté : « j’étais mort, mais maintenant je suis vivant aux siècles des siècles ».
• May God give you a testimony that brings confusion across the board?
• May God silence the critics of you situation!
• May God turn your ashes into beauty!
• May the new you bring glory and honor to God almighty! AMEN!
