CHRIST THE ROCK CONGREGATION
SUNDAY OCTOBER 5TH 2025
Sermon by Pastor Marc E Simeon
TO WHOM SHALL WE GO IF NOT TO JESUS?
VERS QUI IRONS-NOUS SINON QU’À JESUS?
Jean 6:66-69
John 6:66-69
66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
- Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
INTRODUCTION
THE TEMPTATION TO WALK AWAY FROM GOD
- We are living in tempestuous and perilous times.
- All the indications lead to the one fact that we are living in times of judgment, times of calamity, of unrests, and uncertainties.
- Many are experiencing the silence and the seeming insensitivity of God in these last days.
- It’s as if God is giving the deaf ear to many of our petitions these days.
- Many are feeling at odds with God over the loss of their loved ones after much intercession for divine intervention, all to no avail.
- The natural sense of closeness that a human being should have toward his Creator has been hindered by the endless fear and anxiety that seem to loom over the whole world these days.
- Everyone’s faith in God is being tested; while many maybe excelling in their intimacy with God, the faith of the greatest majority is shrinking considerably in layers and shackles.
- Christian persecution has turned to a worldwide phenomenon.
- Christians are daily being murdered in masses in some corners of the world.
- The safe bubble Christians used to enjoy in the United States of America is now something of the past.
- There is a furious intolerance of Christian views in all the mainstreams of society, here and aboard.
- This year alone we’ve seen people publically celebrating the death of nominal Christian leaders who have rendered great services to humanity and to the faith.
- Dr James Dodson from Focus on the Family, was a man that I greatly admired for his many years of strengthening the family with biblical precepts.
- I was so shocked to see how he was ridiculed in the Social Medias and made to be seen as a villain after his death.
- John MacArthur, the same.
- Jimmy Swaggart, the same.
- Charlie Kirk, the same. I don’t know much about Charlie Kirk.
- I have my reservations when Christians influencers are turned to idols by politicians in order to steer the crowd in their favor.
- It will always go wrong. He was killed for his radical and biblical views on life and marriage and a number of other issues.
- People are beginning to wonder whether it is still a wise decision to make a bold stand for Christ in our days.
- Countless people have been turned down on job offers, because they give the suspicion that they may be Jesus’ fanatics.
- The cost for following Christ is becoming more and more evident as the world persists in its trajectory toward evil.
- To whom shall we go?
- You go to Jesus and there is a great cross associated to be hanging on your back.
- You pick no side, then the judgment of God will fall upon you; because, a rejection of God is by default a choice for Satan.
- You go to the devil, there is eternal damnation awaiting you after your death.
- Many of the disciples of Jesus walked away when they realized the price they had to pay to remain loyal to the Lord.
- This morning, I want to ask you the same question Jesus asked to the core disciples.
- What about you Jesus asked, why didn’t you follow the rest of the crowd that left?
- Why did you choose to stay with me?
SURVIVAL STRATEGIES TO HOLD ON TO YOUR FAITH IN DUREST MOMENTS IN LIFE WHEN GOD IS SILENT
1Co 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Isa 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
- We see how many of Jesus’ followers parted their ways from him after one sermon where he further explained what it entailed to be His disciple.
- The large crowd was reduced to the familiar 12 disciples.
- Jesus inquired of the remaining disciples as to why they did not join the bandwagon of those who left.
- Speaking for the 12, Peter seemed to indicate their displeasures concerning the sermon as well.
- But, upon further considerations, they came to the conclusion to remain with Jesus.
- Jean 6:68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
- While you were talking, we googled the words “Eternal Life”, and only your name pops.
- Only your blood contains the cleansing power to blot out our sins.
- You alone possess the key to heaven.
- You alone can vanquish the power death.
- Only you can reconcile mankind back to God the Father.
- Only you can tame and defeat our adversary the devil.
- After much consideration, we’ve come to the conclusion to bear with you, even if we are not at ease with all your sayings.
- You are the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through You.
- John 6:9 “Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
- We’ve already made the solemn decision to follow you to the end.
- We have already discovered that you are the Christ, the anointed one of God.
- We already see that you are compassionate and kind hearted Master.
- We already know that everything you do and even your silence is propelled by love, truth, and righteousness.
TRUSTING GOD IN THE MIDST OF THE STORMS OF LIFE
- We finite beings cannot understand the wisdom and the ways of God.
- We cannot fathom the silence or the laissez-faire approach of God over the evils of this world.
- Since we do not have the full scope of the big picture, therefore none of the detours that God makes seem to make sense to us.
- We can only evaluate life by the minutes, while God is orchestrating the events in our lives with a panoramic view of eternity.
- The ways of God are very far distant from ours.
- As we approach the end of this dispensation, the whole world is bound to experience labor pains with increasing frequency.
- At times, it will feel like the clothes in the laundry machine during the final spin.
- The clothes do not know that the purpose of the final spin is for extracting as much water as possible out of the tissues.
- The discomfort and the dizziness associated with the final spin prevent the clothes to see any benefit to it.
- Thanks to the final spin, some of the clothes will not even have to go to the dryer.
- God is purging the human race in aim to differentiate the redeemed from the crowd.
- We will have to make the firm decision to know that God knows best how to run His universe.
- We must never allow our faith to waiver by the happenings of the time, for we are fully warned by the Bible of the stances of the last days.
CONCLUSION
VERS QUI IRONS-NOUS AUTRE QUE DIEU ?
TO WHOM SHALL WE GO EXCEPT FOR GOD?
- Where do we do from here? To whom shall we go?
- We stick to God regardless.
- Although we are not at ease with these times of uncertainties.
- Although we feel that God should have been more protective toward His feeble church to spare her from all harms.
- Although we are not comfortable with the seeming disengagement of God.
- Vers qui irons-nous?
- To whom shall we go?
- Only God can bring a solution to the problems of our time.
- Only God cares about the matters of life after death.
- Only God knows what He wants to achieve with all the happenings of our times.
- Like Peter, I have decided to keep my faith grounded in God regardless how I feel inwardly; I will remain his faithful servant.
- If God chooses to allow the situation to worsen, I will remain his faithful servant.
- I pray that God would allow each one of us to grasp this message to heart for the ride of this life is getting more bumpy by the day.
- Let’s buckle-up for better or for worse with our hearts well fasted on Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.
- As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
- “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
- AMEN!
