THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD
LES ATTRIBUTS DE DIEU
Definition of the word Attribute: Google
A quality or feature regarded as a characteristic or inherent part of someone or something.
Synonyms of Attribute
Quality, feature, distinctive, characteristic, trait, element, aspect, property, hallmark, signs, peculiarity, virtue, aspect
God processes attributes that are unique to Him and Him alone.
God is a personal being who has certain characteristics that differentiate Him from all other beings.
God has certain characteristics that can be traced in others called transferable attributes of God.
God has both moral and non-moral attributes.
A non moral attribute is a characteristic that is innate with a person apart from behavior.
THE NON MORAL ATTRIBUTES OF GOD / LES QUATRE ATTRIBUTS NON MORAUX DE DIEU
- OMNISCIENCE / l’omniscience,
- OMNIPOTENCE / l’omnipotence,
- OMNIPRESENCE / l’omniprésence,
- IMMUTABILITY / et l’immuabilité.
God has certain absolute attributes that can only be found in Him.
Les attributs absolus ou immanents sont intransmissibles ils ne sortent pas et n’opèrent pas hors de l’essence divine, ils demeurent immanents, inhérents, inséparables, intrinsèques.
L’omniprésence.
Cet attribut comme les deux suivants, utilise le préfixe «omni» qui signifie «tout». Ici cela signifie «présent partout en même temps.»
- God is present everywhere at the same time.
- Dieu est présent partout dans toute sa création sans être limité par quoi que se soit….
- Son omniprésence ne nous parle pas de son immensité, mais de sa présence permanente partout.
Jer 23:23 “Am I a God near at hand,” says the LORD, “And not a God afar off?
24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?” says the LORD; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the LORD.
Jérémie 23:23-24 Ne suis-je un Dieu que de près, dit l’Éternel, Et ne suis-je pas aussi un Dieu de loin? 24 Quelqu’un se tiendra-t-il dans un lieu caché, Sans que je le voie? dit l’Éternel. Ne remplis-je pas, moi, les cieux et la terre? dit l’Éternel.
- Le préfixe «omni» signifie «tout». Ici cela signifie «présent partout en même temps.»
- Dieu est présent partout dans toute sa création sans être limité par quoi que se soit….
Psaume 139:7-10
- 7 ¶ Où irais-je loin de ton esprit, Et où fuirais-je loin de ta face?
- 8 Si je monte aux cieux, tu y es; Si je me couche au séjour des morts, t’y voilà.
- 9 Si je prends les ailes de l’aurore, Et que j’aille habiter à l’extrémité de la mer,
- 10 Là aussi ta main me conduira, Et ta droite me saisira.
Ps 139:7 ¶ Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.
Matthieu 28.20
“teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (NKJV)
20 et enseignez-leur à observer tout ce que je vous ai prescrit. Et voici, je suis avec vous tous les jours, jusqu’à la fin du monde. (LSV)
L’omniscience.
God knows all things / Dieu a une connaissance infinie.
- Il connaît tout et il se connaît aussi lui-même complètement et parfaitement.
- Il connaît toutes choses de façon complète, simultanée et vraie.
- L’omniprésence prouve aussi son omniscience,
Ps 139:1 ¶ <<For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.>> O LORD, You have searched me and known me. (NKJV)
1 ¶ Au chef des chantres. De David. Psaume. Éternel! tu me sondes et tu me connais, (LSV)
2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. (NKJV)
2 Tu sais quand je m’assieds et quand je me lève, Tu pénètres de loin ma pensée; (LSV)
3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. (NKJV)
3 Tu sais quand je marche et quand je me couche, Et tu pénètres toutes mes voies. (LSV)

8 Ne leur ressemblez pas; car votre Père sait de quoi vous avez besoin, avant que vous le lui demandiez. (LSV)
Dieu connaît l’avenir, nous appelons cela de la prescience
Il connaît toute choses par sa connaissance simultanée.
L’omnipotence.
GOD CAN DO ALL THINGS
Dieu peut donc faire tout ce qu’il veut en accord avec ses perfections.
Nous comprenons, par là que Dieu ne peut pas pécher, ou jeter un regard favorable sur le péché, Habacuc 1.13, «…Tes yeux sont trop purs pour voir le mal…»
- Le fait d’avoir l’omnipotence ne l’oblige pas d’exercer son pouvoir.
La Bible enseigne simplement l’omnipotence divine, il est appelé le « Tout-Puissant ». Rien n’est trop difficile pour lui.
Jérémie 32.17 ‘Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. (NKJV)
17 Ah! Seigneur Éternel, Voici, tu as fait les cieux et la terre Par ta grande puissance et par ton bras étendu: Rien n’est étonnant de ta part. (LSV)
Isa 45:11 ¶ Thus says the LORD, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me. (NKJV)
11 ¶ Ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Saint d’Israël, et son créateur: Veut-on me questionner sur l’avenir, Me donner des ordres sur mes enfants et sur l’oeuvre de mes mains? (LSV)
12 I have made the earth, And created man on it. I-My hands-stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded. (NKJV)
12 C’est moi qui ai fait la terre, Et qui sur elle ai créé l’homme; C’est moi, ce sont mes mains qui ont déployé les cieux, Et c’est moi qui ai disposé toute leur armée. (LSV)
L’immuabilité.
GOD CANNOT CHANGE
Tout changement de lui-même est impossible.
- Il ne peut pas changer pour du meilleur puisqu’il est absolument parfait, pour la même raison il ne peut pas changer pour du pire, car il reste parfait.
- Il ne peut pas être plus sage, ni plus saint, ni plus juste, ni plus vrai, ni moins d’ailleurs.
L’immuabilité divine est aussi due à son essence, il est Esprit.
L’homme qui a un corps et une âme à déjà plusieurs substances, l’une matérielle l’autre pas, l’une et l’autre sont imparfaites et peuvent évoluer.
- Ni amélioration ni détérioration ne sont possibles en Dieu.
- Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. (NKJV)
- 17 toute grâce excellente et tout don parfait descendent d’en haut, du Père des lumières, chez lequel il n’y a ni changement ni ombre de variation. (LSV)
Il ne change pas de caractère,- Hébreux 1.12, Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail.” (NKJV)
- 12 Tu les rouleras comme un manteau et ils seront changés; Mais toi, tu restes le même, Et tes années ne finiront point. (LSV)
CONCLUSION
The four absolute attributes of God differentiate Him from all other beings.
God is self-existent meaning that no one has put together his attributes.
God has several other attributes that can also be found in His creatures but the above four are not transferable to none other.
God has moral attributes that He expect his children to pattern their lives after, but that will be the topic for another day.
- Holiness / La sainteté :
- Justice / La justice, ou l’équité
- Truth / La Vérité.
- Love/ L’amour.
- Goodness / La Bonté.
- La patience et tant d’autres.
