Sermon by Past Marc E Simeon
Let your garments always be white, And let your head lack no oil. Ec 9:8
INTODUCTION
- Sometimes ago while I was reading the Bible, I spotted this verse in Ecclesiastes 9:8
- Although I must have read it a number of occasions, but this is the first time I received such a bulk of revelation from it.
- In this little verse is hidden a wealth of wisdom that has transcended all previous generations all the way to our time.
- The secret of a victorious Christian life is revealed in this verse.
- This verse is a recommendation for all who desire to have an intimate and satisfying relationship with God.
- The first recommendation is: “Let your garments always be white. In other words washed and cleaned.
- The second recommendation is: “And let your head lack no oil.”
- We have to make the disclaimer here, that the author is not advising people to just wear while clothes as a token of holiness.
- Salomon is not suggesting for people to soak their hair with oil or grease in order to please God.
THE SYMBOLISN OF COLOR
- In the Bible as in life, colors are very significant.
- In my preparation for this message, I run into this article I am going to quote.
The Power and Symbolism of Colors by Jacon Olesen https://www.color-meanings.com/
RED
The color of passion and energy.
Red draws attention like no other color and radiates a strong and powerful energy that motivates us to take action.
It is also linked to sexuality and stimulates deep and intimate passion.
Red is ubiquitously used to warn and signal caution and danger.
ORANGE
The color of enthusiasm and emotion.
It is a youthful and energetic color.
YELLOW
The color of happiness and optimism.
It makes learning easier as it affects the logical part of the brain, stimulating mentality and perception. It inspires thought and curiosity and boosts enthusiasm and confidence.
GREEN
The color of harmony and health.
Green is a generous, relaxing color that revitalizes our body and mind.
It balances our emotions and leaves us feeling safe and secure.
It also gives us hope, with promises of growth and prosperity, and it provides a little bit of luck to help us along the way.
Turquoise Color Meaning
The color of calmness and clarity.
Turquoise stabilizes emotions and increases empathy and compassion.
It emits a cool calming peace, gives us a boost of positive mental energy that improves concentration and clarifies our mind, and creates a balance that clears the path to spiritual growth.
BLUE
The color of trust and loyalty.
Blue has a calming and relaxing effect on our psyche, that gives us peace and makes us feel confident and secure.
PURPLE
The color of spirituality and imagination.
It is often associated with royalty and luxury, and its mystery and magic sparks creative fantasies.
PINK
The color of love and compassion.
Pink is kind and comforting, full of sympathy and compassion, and makes us feel accepted.
BROWN
The color of stability and reliability. Brown is dependable and comforting.
BLACK
The color of power and sophistication.
Black is an incredibly strong and intimidating color that exudes authority and makes us feel secure and protected.
GREY
The color of compromise and control.
Gray is neutral, conservative and unemotional.
Gray avoids attention but offers mature, insightful advice to anyone who asks.
WHITE
The color of purity and innocence.
White is a true balance of all colors and is associated with cleanliness, simplicity and perfection.
It loves to make others feel good and provides hope and clarity by refreshing and purifying the mind.
It also promotes open-mindedness and self-reflection.
- Although many of the citations I just quoted make logical sense, only God know the true meaning of each color.
- We are yet to discover a great number of colors when we go to heaven.
- The Bible uses red to describe sin and white to describe holiness.
Ps 51:7 ¶ (51:9) Purifie-moi avec l’hysope, et je serai pur; Lave-moi, et je serai plus blanc que la neige.
Ps 51:7 ¶ Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Isa 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
HOLINESS AND ANOINTING: A NECESSARY MIXTURE FOR A MAXIMIZED CHRISTIAN EXPERIENCE
- In electricity they recognize voltage, Amps and Watts.
- Voltage being the pressure that pushes the electrons from the source to another the other point
- Ampere measures the rate and the volume of the flow of the charged electrons
- Wattage is the result of the combination of voltage and amperage.
- The formula goes like this: Volts (V) x amps (A) = Watts
- It sounds so simple, but very difficult to understand.
- I preached sometimes ago about another formula found in the Bible.
- Godliness + Contentment = Great Gain.
- La Piété + le contentement = Grande Source de Gain
1Ti 6:6 ¶ Now godliness with contentment is great gain. (NKJV)
- In Ecclesiastes 9 :8 we find another formula.
Ec 9:8 Let your garments always be white, And let your head lack no oil. (NKJV)
(LSV)
- Although Salomon does not tell us the byproduct of a permanent white garment and head anointed with oil at all times, the rest of the Bible is very explicit about what is resulted from it.
- Though we are saved by faith through grace, the Bible says that without holiness, no one will see God. Heb 12:14
- Holiness gives rights to the believers to access the promises of God.
- Just believing will not access anyone to heaven.
- The demons also believe in God yet they are condemned because of their deeds.
- The church of Sardis received a lot of rebuke from the Lord because of their pretentious attitudes.
- The Lord warned them of the many of their parishioners who were dying, meaning losing their faith.
- Yet, God had this one good thing to say about some of the saints of that unfortunate church.
- The white garment or the cleaned garment is the only guaranty of a Christian who walks in holiness.
- The garment represents your testimony.
- The garment represents your spiritual covering from the nudity of sin.
Re 22:14 Blessed [are] they that wash their robes, that they may have right to the tree of life, and that they should go in by the gates into the city. (DBY)
- Many are selling garments that are suitable for this world but God only accepts garments of holiness in His kingdom.
- The church of Laodicea was advised to purchase their white garments from God.
Re 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold purified by fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white garments, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness may not be made manifest; and eye-salve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see. (DBY)
WE WILL BE CLOTHED IN WHITE GARMENTS IN HEAVEN
15 C’est pour cela qu’ils sont devant le trône de Dieu, et le servent jour et nuit dans son temple. Celui qui est assis sur le trône dressera sa tente sur eux;
EXTENSIVENESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT A GOAL FOR EACH BELIEVER
- An overflow of the presence of God.
18 And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, (DBY)
CONCLUSION
Let your garments always be white, And let your head lack no oil. Ec 9:8
- As the New Year is rolling in, many people are making resolutions.
- How about making a New Year resolution to line your life to Ecclesiastes 9 verse 8
- What is presently the color of your spiritual garment?
- Can you honestly say that your garment can pass through the scrutiny of the holiness of God?
- Keeping on a white garment in permanence, requires a great deal of efforts.
- Constant washing, constant care, constant precaution, and constant abstinence of filth are required.
- A life of obedience to the word of God will guaranty the clean garment.
- The head soaked with oil in permanence can only be obtained by a proactive Christian who sets out to live in the fullness of the Spirit of God.
- A life of devotion, prayer, meditation, praise, service and worship to God will keep the oil flowing from over our heads.
- May these two goals occupy your heart and soul in the New Year; and may God help you in the process!
AMEN!

Marchons avec joie
Dans le bon chemin,
Dans l’étroite voie
Du bonheur sans fin.
Laissons en arrière
Les biens d’ici-bas;
Prions notre Père
De guider nos pas.
Comptant sur sa grâce,
Remplis de sa paix,
Que rien n’embarrasse
Nos pas désormais.
2
Si rude est la route,
Glissant le sentier,
Le Seigneur écoute
Qui le sait prier.
Il est la lumière,
Le Libérateur
Du coeur qui n’espère
Qu’en son Dieu-Sauveur.
Sa toute-puissance
Défend le croyant;
Son amour immense
Sauve son enfant.
3
Et quand sonne l’heure
De quitter ces lieux,
Il a pour demeure
Le palais des cieux!
Vêtements de gloire,
D’immortalité,
Palmes de victoire
Pour l’éternité!
Voilà ce que donne
Le Seigneur Jésus!
Voilà la couronne
De tous les élus.
