INTRODUCTION

  • In our generation, the message of the Gospel is so watered down to the point of making the least candidate for heaven think he is already saved.
  • Often times, the Gospel is preached without presenting the cross associated.
  • It is heartbroken to see how in some circles, sinners are invited to come to Jesus while no change of lifestyle is implemented in the call.
  • “Come as you are and stay as you are if you so wish.”
  • Consequently, there is no longer a clear margin or line demarcation between the church and the world in most Christian circles.
  • To make the message of the Gospel more appealing, some churches guarantee ahead of time, that some sins will not challenged by this body of believers.
  • I know that we tend to think of homosexuality lifestyle as one of the biggest plagues of the twenty first Century church, but many other pervasive sins are condoned in some so called orthodox churches.
  • Racism is not challenged in many conservative churches.
  • Adultery is not challenged in some churches.
  • We certainly do not challenge the Christians enough on illegal marriages or illegal means to obtain residency or citizenship in the country in which they live.
  • The sins of the others are always maximized and ours minimized.
  • In some churches fraudulent activities are not challenged.
  • In some churches proper outward appearance for Christians is not challenged.
  • Greed, theft, excess displaying of wealth, pride, vengeance, drunkenness, gambling, tobacco using, excessive use of artificial and beauty products for men and women, feminism, sexism, physical abuse, parental abuse, incest, polygamy, domestic violence and a host of other sins are looked over in some so called Christian circles.
  • Foul languages, lies, overeating, substance abuse, co-habitation, fornication, abortion, vengeance, and disrespect for authority, abuse of power, laziness, unequally yoke with unbelievers, divorce, remarriage, gossip, pride and many other sins are not in the radar of the pulpits of some so-called churches.
  • We lower down the standard and make the way to heaven as broad as possible in order to attract the biggest masses to our churches.
  • In addition, we give assurance of salvation ahead of the race to all the wishful pilgrims.
  • In the light of the Bible, we will see whether we can honestly assure a safe entry to heaven for our parishioners who want have it their way and not the way of the Bible?

Lu 13:23 ¶ Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?” And He said to them,

24 “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

  • When driving on the highways, sometimes one may experience a huge traffic delay due to accident or construction.
  • Sometimes four busy lanes must be converged to one traveling lane; the closer one gets to the spot in question the heavier the traffic gets.
  • A lot of lanes shifting must happen in order to get through.
  • A lot of driving skills is required to avoid accidents.
  • Even the most courteous driver must be aggressive and somewhat selfish to get through.
  • Sometimes police officers stand by to punish those who want to cut corners or bully their way through.

(LSV)

13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. (NKJV)

(LSV)

12 “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

  • The easy Gospel that is been preached to attract people to the Kingdom of God is deceptive.
  • Becoming a Christian is like joining the military.
  • All those who are dishonorable will be discharged;
  • All those who show lack of competence will be discharged.
  • All the spies will be discharged and punished.
  • All the insubordinates will be discharged
  • All who withdraw from confrontation in the battlefield will be discharged.
  • Although God is very forgiving to those who repent with a sincere heart, he does not lower the standard in aim to accommodate the cowards an easy entrance.

THE PARABLE OF THE CLOSED DOOR

Lu 13:24 “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

25 “When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’

Lu 13:26 “then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’

Lu 13:27 “But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’

Lu 13:28 “There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out.

  • This week I watch the highlight of a soccer game in the European Premier League.
  • At the 94th minutes of the game, this player missed a goal that would have put his team on top to win the game.
  • He himself fell inside the goal area and the ball went over.
  • While his back against the net, the final whistle of the game was blown.
  • He had a clear opportunity to make history and become a hero.
  • He could not manage to gather his strength to get up.
  • He sat there is anguish, in shock and agony, not knowing how he was going to meet his team mates, the press, the fans, himself, and the critics.
  • The entire field was wipeout and he was still seating there until one man came and grab him.
  • It will be the same for those who grew up in church and were familiar with Jesus to see others enjoying heaven while they are left behind.

Lu 13:29 “They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God.

  • The worse part will be to witness that some of the least likely candidates enjoying the table of the Master while you who should have been in the forefront be denied entry to the house.
  • Some of those you preached to will be in heaven thanks to your intervention; but you yourself, will be thrown out because your incredulity.
  • The Jewish people are presently experiencing this jealousy with the church, to see that the God of their fore fathers is being worshiped and honored, and exalted properly by complete strangers who should not even have any part in the kingdom.
  • God is not through with the Jews, but He is using us Christians to steer their jealousy in preparation for the national repentance of all the Jews that will take place during the millennium kingdom of Christ.

Lu 13:30 “And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”

  • Some of you who are not yet saved can today decide to be among the first in heaven.
  • God truly rewards people based on the end of the race instead of the beginning.
  • Some of the privileged sinners can turn to Christ today and accelerated to earn a first class seat in the kingdom of God, while some old grumpy saints can be thrown to the back.
  • Some prostitutes, some voodoo practitioners, some criminals, some evil doers can come to Christ wholeheartedly and bring more people to heaven than all the saints who have served Christ their whole lives as we witness it today.

CONCLUSION

  • My determination and my greatest ambition in life are to be around the table with Christ in heaven.
  • I refuse to get familiar with Christ in the wrong way to undermine his Word.
  • I am very watchful on my walk with God.
  • My greatest desire in life remains to spend eternity with God.
  • I now drop a lot of the things that were important to me to keep my eyes on the prize of the upward call.
  • I can assure you that no one will occupy the seat that God had predestined for me before the foundation of the world.
  • I hope to say like Paul for the rest of my life.

(LSV)

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. (NKJV)

  • I wish that you will have the same conviction as Paul and mine.
  • Avoid becoming too familiar with God to the point of neglecting His Word.
  • Avoid relying on your past experiences with God to determine your present standing with God.
  • There is no privilege by seniority with God. The last comers can have the first seat and the first comers can have the last seat.
  • Obedience to the Word of God, zest for God, prayer, and evangelization will always keep you on the leading edge with God.
  • Disobedience will distract you from the readiness for the feast.
  • Rationalization will obscure your sights for the gate and from the movement of the owner of the house.
  • False familiarity with God will deceive you to think you have a special relationship with God that is not conditioned by the obedience of his Word.
  • May God help you to understand the urgency of this message!

AMEN!
