THE INVASION OF LAWLESSNESS IN THE CHURCH: A MARKING SIGN OF THE LAST DAYS

L’INVASION DE L’INIQUITE DANS L’EGLISE : UN SIGNE MARQUANT DES DERNIERS JOURS

2Timothy 3:1-5

1 ¶ But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:

2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,

4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

2Ti 3:1-5

INTRODUCTION

  • In the third chapter of 2Tim, Paul seems to shift the conversation to lower tone as to express a great concern.
  • As the hope of every preacher is to see a great revival as a result of his preaching.
  • Although, all the glory belongs to God, nothing is second to the gratification that a minister of the Gospel shares to see the impact of his ministry played out in a positive way in the lives of the people in his or her generation.
  • Paul felt obligated to warn Timothy of the reality of ministry.
  • A young zealous preacher will feel incompetent and ineffective, if he is not warned about the character of the recipients of his message.
  • Before Timothy discounted himself, Paul had to break his silence to let him know that it is not something personal; it has rather to do with end times.
  • So many people have a fairytale idea of ministry; they dive in to begin to work for God. A few months down the line, you meet the same person, and all the excitement is gone.
  • As a responsible mentor, Paul is helping Timothy to avoid the common pitfall of disappointment of people.

(LSV)

1 ¶ But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: (NKJV)

  • When we see how much time has elapsed since these words were penned by Paul, we know that they were written specially for us who are living in this present generation.
  • Matter of fact Timothy, times will be difficult, because the people as we know them today will change in the last days.
  • Everywhere you go, these trends will be observed.
  • The difficulties will not arise because of global warming.
  • The difficulties will not be because ecological factors,
  • The difficulties will not be because of shortage of food or technologies, or climate unbalances
  • The times will be difficult because of the characters of the inhabitants of the earth.
  • The times will be difficult the church will resemble the world.
  • The frontier between the world and the church will be removed.
  • When you go to a wedding these days, apart from the blessing of a preacher, you can’t tell the difference who is Christian and who is not.
    • The type of clothe they wear
    • The type of music they chose
    • The kind of tradition they want to observe that is pagan and that has nothing to do with God.
    • The kind of food and drink they offer
    • The kind of dance that they do
    • The kind of people they chose to be “filles d’honneur, garcons d’honneur.
    • The DJ they chose.
    • The kind of people they invite to the wedding.
    • On your way home, you will be confused.
    • You realize that the last person that they wanted to honor was God.
  • Same thing with the world when a so called Christian invites you to a house party.
  • Same thing with the world when go to their funeral
  • Same thing with the world when you meet them at work
  • Same thing with the world in their reactions in the street ( taking red lights, speeding, selfish in sharing the road, road rage, etc..)
  • Same thing with the world when they are filling their taxes (lies, exaggerations, frauds)
  • Same thing with the world at work (lazy, disrespectful, always late, calling sick on purpose, cutting corners, false reports, trouble makers)
  • Same thing with the world when they are selling their goods (black market, cunning, false report, excessive profit)
  • Same thing with the world in life style (extravagant, materialistic, prejudice, proud,)
  • Same thing with the world when it comes to authority: (lack of respect, rebellious, defiant)
  • Same thing with world in their family life; (profanity, selfishness, cruelty, R rated movies, alcohol consumption, social media, adultery, divorce, insubordination)

PAUL IS TALKING TO TIMOTHY ABOUT THE STATE OF THE PEOPLE IN THE CHURCH IN THE LAST DAYS.

  • Having lived in a time of fierce opposition to the Gospel, Paul had already encountered vicious and violent men in the secular world
  • When Paul wrote this pastoral Epistle, it was in a time of great persecution for the church.
  • Nero one of the most villain men who have walked upon the face of this earth was the Roman emperor.
  • After the great fire that destroyed the city of Rome, Nero accused the Christians to have been the ones who have set the fire.
  • It was open season on the church, Paul would not have to refer the future to see how vile man can be or will be.
  • Paul is rather warning Timothy about some dark and doom days that are coming for the church.
  • Paul is referring to the invasion of sinners in the church of Jesus Christ in the last days.
  • As big as a church can be nowadays, only a small percentage of the people are serious about God.

PAUL’S STRATEGY FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN THE WORLD

  • FIND THEM, BLEND WITH THEM, WIN THEM

1Co 9:19-23

19 ¶ For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more;

20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law;

21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law;

22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

23 Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.

1Co 9:19-23

20 Avec les Juifs, j’ai été comme Juif, afin de gagner les Juifs; avec ceux qui sont sous la loi, comme sous la loi (quoique je ne sois pas moi-même sous la loi), afin de gagner ceux qui sont sous la loi;

PAUL WARNED TIMOTHY TO STAY AWAY FROM SUCH PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE CHURCH AND ARE LIVING LIKE THE WORLD.

  • What makes it difficult is that they will be in majority in the church
  • They will rise to all the offices of the church
  • They will seek and secure good tittles in the church.
    • Some will be bishops
    • Some will be doctors
    • Some will be pastors
    • Some will be bible teachers
    • Some will be deacons
    • Some will be televangelists
    • Some will run seminaries
    • Some will be administrators in the church
    • Some will be missionaries
    • Some will be big donors in the church.
  • Paul is always very severe with the nominal Christians

SEVERITY OF PAUL TOWARD SINNERS IN THE CHURCH

1Co 5:9-13 ¶ I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people.

10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.

11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner–not even to eat with such a person.

12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?

13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”

  • Paul is telling Timothy to get ready for the time when the elects will be in minority in the church.

WATCH FOR THE TIME WHEN THE BORDER BETWEEN THE SO CALLED CHURCH AND WORLD IS REMOVED.

  • There is such a great pressure to remold the church so that it can become attractive to the world as in an effort to win the world to Christ.
  • We failed to see that Satan is using the same strategy and is winning over us because we compromise.
  • Whenever churches become complaisant and begin to shine away from the offensive message of the gospel of the cross.
  • They will move to entertainments to attract the world as a result, the world comes and settles in without going through the process of sanctification.
  • As a result, you will have a church filled with unrepentant and unsaved sinners.

THE INVASION OF SINNERS IN THE CHURCH

It will like the banquet like the King was throwing for His son.

Mt 22:1-14

1¶ And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said:

2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son,

3 “and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.

4 “Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”‘

5 “But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business.

6 “And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.

7 “But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.

9 ‘Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’

10 “So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment.

12 “So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.

13 “Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Mt 22:1-14

5 Mais, sans s’inquiéter de l’invitation, ils s’en allèrent, celui-ci à son champ, celui-là à son trafic;

    • The first invitees did not respond to the invitation is the house of Israel.
    • The second set of invitees was the people of the streets, meaning us the gentiles.
    • The banquet must still be high class
    • Each invitee that comes through the door was given the proper care and the proper wear.
    • When the King entered the room, He was vexed,
      • not with the ones who did not respond to his invitation for he had already dealt with them ,
      • not of the social status of his new invitees,
      • but of the one who thought that he could participate in the banquet in whatsoever state that he was.
    • All the attention was on the lone stranger.
    • He was asked about how he got in.
  • When God is looking at His church today, He is asking a lot of people how they got in.
  • Who invited you in my banquet?
  • Did the person tell that you can come as you are to remain as you are?
  • Don’t you know that I am a Holy God, and in my presence all shout Holy, Holy, Holy?

FALSE MOTIVES IN THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL

  • In an effort to fill our church we write a lot of fake visas for heaven
  • In an effort to collect money from people, we white washed the cross that is involved in salvation.
  • Consequently, most churches are now filled and run by unsaved people.
  • They are in every department of the church.
  • They control the treasury department, they are giving Holy Communion.
  • They open the windows and allow people like them in the banquet room.
  • They and their friends are the ones serving the food in the banquet.
  • They and their friends are the ones cooking the food in the banquet.
  • They now begin to tease and intimidate the ones who came the proper way, through the door of repentance and regeneration.
  • Alas, the heavy presence of the unsaved in the church is the greatest hill we are dealing with today.

2Ti 3:1-5

5b Éloigne-toi de ces hommes-là.

5b And from such people turn away!

  • We did a big swing to show you that Paul is talking about the state of the church in the last days.
  • In this message, we will also focus about precaution and prevention.

Paul instructed Timothy to stay away from these men, but why?

  • Because the trend is contagious
  • Because there are demonic influences behind it.
  • Because the apparent gain is obvious and envious.
  • Because Satan as twisted these sicknesses as virtues

TWISTED VIEW OF MEN IN THE LAST DAYS

  • For men will be lovers of themselves translated to be self confident. self assured, positive view of oneself
  • Lovers of money translated to being successful and goal oriented (get the most toys, best cars, houses, makes great managers, are go-getters, hard workers,
  • Boasters translated to be self assured, comfortable under their skin, positive self image
  • Proud, full of themselves, self sufficient, happy with oneself
  • Blasphemers translated as being independent of God, self judge, free thinkers, and opened mind.
  • disobedient to parents translated to be defiant, strong, opinionated, independent,
  • Unthankful translated as pride, you owe me, I deserve it, I don’t need you
  • Unholy translated as unrestricted, unbound, “free to follow your desire, if it feels good do it”, “Just do it.”
  • Unloving translated as demanding respect, insulating oneself from unwanted company.
  • Unforgiving translated as a virtue, you will pay for it, you will never get away with it, vengeance is sweet.
  • Slanderers translated as “tell it like it is,” fearless, despiser of evil, self elevation.
  • without self-control translated as free, adventurous, brave, bold, wild, “release the wild in you”
  • Brutal translated strong, powerful, inspiring respect, Cruel people instill fear and get the respect they desire
  • Despisers of good translated as haters of hypocrites, haters of fake, haters of limitation
  • Traitors translated “cover your own ankle”, safe, smart, good diplomat, confident,
  • Headstrong translated as willful, determined, headstrong, self assured,
  • Haughty translated as self-important, high self esteem, respected, “I don’t need anyone” “I bow before no one”
  • Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Translated as free, thrill seeker, excited, self awareness,
  • Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Translates as being pragmatic, practical, realistic, pay your dues to all, one size fits all, all religion are the same, being cultured, being a gentlemen, respecter of all religion.
  • And from such people turn away!

CONCLUSION

  • With the grace of God, we were able to pinpoint that Paul is indeed talking about the state of the men inside the church.
  • We have shown you that the lines of demarcation between the world and the church have been removed by weak preachers who were afraid of offending the sinner to seek repentance.
  • We have shown you that the standard of holiness has not changed because we are of gentile backgrounds. The king still expect all the guests of the banquet to be dressed appropriately with their garment of sanctification for the occasion
  • And at last we have shown you that the present world have translated these sicknesses of the time as virtue.
  • Now, we want to finish with the strong imperative of Paul to Timothy. “Stay Away from such men”
    • Don’t make friends with them
    • Disassociate with them
    • Don’t listen to them
    • Don’t allow them to pastor you
    • Don’t follow their philosophies of life
    • While you cannot win them because their hearts have become seared, they can surely contaminate you.
    • Remember that they are animated by the devil, the deceiver of mankind.
  • We hope that God has blessed you thus far in the subject, and with His grace, we will take another spin of the same subject next week.

AMEN!

CHRIST THE ROCK CONGREGATION

Sermon by Pastor Marc E SIMEON

2Ti 3:1-5

INTRO

CRAZY TIMES, BARBARIOUS TIMES, SHOCKING TIMES, ROLLER COASTER TIMES.

BAGAY YO MELANGE: CAKIFONY, DESORDRE, ANARCHY, TET ANBA, DERAILLE, COFUSION TOTALE,

    • bingo,
    • spiritual awareness,
    • new age,
    • boxing,
    • blending with mother nature,
    • trip to casino
    • and a number of clubs depending on the church
    • food distribution
    • community service
