LOVING JESUS ACTION DEEP
John 14:15, 21, 23
21 ¶ “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 21 “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.
Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
INTRODUCTION
There is a great confusion going on these days with many who call themselves Christians.
When you observe their passion in worshiping God, you’re tempted to say so and so is really serious about God.
To my dismay, many a time, you may see the same person who was so enthusiastic in praising God exhibiting a life style that is totally opposed to the word of God.
We find a great many people who want to perpetuate in their sins while availing themselves for service to God.
The expression “I love God” has turned to just a vague cliché.
Nowadays, we are used with people who refused to live up to the expectations of their vows.
When two people getting married, they make a lot of vows at the altar, sadly, a few years down the line, many forget all the promises they made.
When we say that we love God, He does not hear what we say from our mouth, but God listens to what the heart is saying.
God can test the sincerity of every word that comes out of our mouth.
God knows the degree of integrity of all our statements.
Often times, during a heated argument, people would say things to hurt the other person very deeply.
At times of reconciliation, while saying sorry to one another, each often want to take back all the words of injure they professed to the other person.
They would say, “I didn’t really mean that”, “I was just trying to hurt you back because you said this or that.”
It’s hard to know how much of it is true and how much is false, but time will tell if they were sincere to each other.
God already knows where we stand when we say that we love Him.
He could just tell you “that’s true” or “that’s not true”
Since it is possible that you may sincerely think that you truly love God, then God wants you to know by what standard He measures our love toward Him.
LOVE AND SACRIFICE GO HAND TO HAND
- Love is not a cheap word as many may think.
- Love is measured by the degree of sacrifice and self-denied that one is willing to do for the benefit of the other.
- Love places the other person’s interest before its own.
- True love is not only in expressing affection but true love is evidenced best in action.
- When Jesus wanted to confer the responsibility to Peter to take of His church, He asked Peter the same question three times.
- Peter, do you love me? Peter, do you love me? Do you love me Peter?
- Joh 21:15 ¶ So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”
- 16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”
- 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.
- The reason Jesus asked the same question three times to Peter was because he was looking for an honest answer.
- The first two responses of Peter were vague and shallow and vague.
- On the third time it’s like Peter was saying common Lord, you know what I mean.
- You know I am only a human.
- You know I have my limits
- You know the level of my sincerity.
- You know that I try my best to love you.
- You know that I don’t know how much I love you.
- Peter, if you truly love me, I want it to be evidenced in how you care for my church.
- The converts will be like tender little sheep in need of care.
- They will not always be nice to you.
- They will demand every ounce of energy that you get.
- They will display lack of cleverness.
- They will be dependant heavily upon you.
- They will do things to get you discouraged.
- They will cause you to want to be hostile with them.
- They may not show any gratitude for all your hard works at times.
- They are my sheep and I love them.
- For the love you have for me, can you commit to take care of my sheep for my sake in my absence?
- Peter could not say, “I love you Lord but no sheep involved.”
- My love for my wife is not just when I say “I love you baby.”
- It’s much more evidenced when she is not around and I see a beautiful girl and I chose not to lust after another woman out of respect for my wife.
- It’s when I clean the snow out of her car.
- It’s when I buy food for her
- It’s when I pick her up when I don’t feel like doing it.
- It’s when I refrain myself from hurting her with harsh words and harsh treatments.
- It’s also when I buy her a card and I write nice words in it.
- It’s also when I buy her flower.
- My love for my wife is more real when I do for her the things that I don’t feel like doing just to make her happy.
- Some women would say to a forever boyfriend “if you love me put a ring to it.” Meaning marry me.
DISPLAYING LOVE TO GOD IS THROUGH OBEDIENCE TO HIS WORD
Joh 14:15 ¶ “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
Joh 14:21 “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
24 “He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
- Obeying God’s word is a voluntary sacrifice.
- Obeying God’s word goes against our sin nature.
- Obeying God’s word is not popular or appealing.
- Obeying God’s word countercultural.
- To obey God’s word is to disobey the carnal promptings of the flesh.
- To obey God’s word is to accept to stand alone at times.
- When you decide to obey God’s word, you cannot even rely on most who claim to be Christians these days.
- Many adopt a “have it your way” version of Christianity.
- They can be involved in all of the above and try to prove how much they are passionate about God.
- Many want to convince others that they have a special relationship with God that is not affected by the sins in their lives.
Examples of people in the Bible who displayed their love of God through action
- Joseph remembered that He was in alliance with God when Potiphar’s wive tried to seduce him.
- Daniel remembered that he was in alliance with God, while in Babylon, when they offered him those meats sacrificed to idol, he refused to eat them.
- The friends of Daniel remembered that they were in alliance with God when the occasion came for them to compromise by worshiping an idol, they refused to do it.
Negative examples of some contemporary so-called Christians
- In recent times, I become so ashamed of two great basketball stars that I admired a great deal for a long time.
- My love for them was for how they were trying to maintain their Christian identity in the heights of their careers.
- It saddens me to watch all the essence of Christianity been washed away in them.
- I am shocked of the frequent usage of foul language.
- Just the other day, I was reading a comment one of the two made over some vague statements he made that affected his relationship with his teammates.
- The reporter could not even write his exact word. “I can’t believe I say that S@#$%^ and I say F%^&^&*.
- I watch them in heated moments on the basketball court and I cannot frankly see any Christianity in any of them two although they might have doubled their giving to church and charity.
- Unfortunately these guys don’t know that they are preaching the Gospel in everything they do.
TRUE LOVE IS NOT CHEAP
- For God so loved the world that He made the ultimate sacrifice by offering His only Son in ransom for the sins of mankind.
- Concerning these two former favorite basketball players of mine, what God would ask of them right now. If you love me leave basketball and come to serve me.”
- Use the money you already have to advance the cause of the gospel.
- Leave the media spotlight for a time of cleansing.
- Since they both still worth so much money, no one can fathom the idea to see them walking away from it all even for exchange of eternal life.
- The young rich ruler who walked away from Jesus very sad because Jesus asked him to get weed of his wealth and come follow Him.
- He loved Jesus obviously, but the sacrifice was too great.
- Christianity is not for all
- Christianity is not for adventurers who want to secure hell insurance.
- Christianity is an “all for all” deal.
- Jesus gave his all in exchange for our all.
- Obedience to God’s word at all times and in all circumstance is the proof of authenticity of our Christian faith.
- The daily crucifixion of the flesh for the benefit of the regenerated spirit in us is the mandate for all the candidates of heaven.
- Lip service, big donations to church, big public confessions of God do not stir God one way or the other if you are tramping His word under your feet by living a licentious lifestyle.
CONCLUSION
1Jo 2:3 ¶ Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
1Jo 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith.
- As we close this message I want to warn you that God is weighing the confessions we make to Him.
- Jesus is not looking for fanatics but He is looking for disciples.
- Jesus is looking for people who want to pattern their lives after Him.
- Jesus is looking for serious Christians who love Him action deep.
- Jesus is looking for Christians who are willing to pick up their crosses daily and follow Him.
- Jesus is looking for that level of commitment from you and me.
- I did not say that it was going to be easy, but it is what the Master is after.
- Remember to always love Jesus action deep, obedience deep, self-denied deep and affection deep.
- May God add His blessing to His Word!
