“Sit at My right hand Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

Psalm 110:1 ¶ The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

Proverbs 3:5-8

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

7 ¶ Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

8 It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.

INTRODUCTION

  • Although the context of Psalm 110:1 is projected to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who will completely vanquish the power Satan and his allies for all eternity,
  • There are numerous applications that can be drawn from this portion of the Scriptures to apply to our daily life.
  • The subtitle of this message is “THE Necessity to Know When and How to seat by God’s Right Hand”
  • Sitting is an uncomfortable posture of combat.
  • To march—to stand—to hide—to run—to attack—to ambush and to ambush are the logical postures of combat.
  • Sitting has the connotation of disengagement.
  • No true soldier expects to achieve victory by sitting down.
  • We are naturally wired to be anxious when the number of our enemies rises.
  • We feel the need to change our tactics in order to slaughter them in masses.
  • While the battle is more drawn, that’s when the Lord asks us to sit.
  • When people go hunting with dogs, the most difficult part is to keep the dogs quiet.
  • The dogs are so pumped up for the occasion that they often cause the preyed animal to notice the presence of the hunter.
  • The natural hunting instinct of the dogs often does more bad than good for the hunter.
  • Likewise, many fatalities occur to the children of God because they fail to follow that sample command to sit.
  • Many of us follow our own logic while doing the work of God.

THE DANGER OF NOT SITTING WHEN GOD ORDERS YOU TO SIT

Joh 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

  • You will run out of strength
  • You will run on carnal power
  • You will lose focus of the mission; You will take the fight personally
  • You will be isolated; You will be disqualified
  • You will lose your joy; You will be overpowered by the enemy
  • You will run into the traps of the enemy; You will hate God in the process
  • You will have a lesser view of God
  • You will lose the joy of your salvation

WHY DOES GOD ASK US TO SIT?

Ps 94:17 Unless the LORD had been my help, My soul would soon have settled in silence.

  • Because the battle with evil forces is beyond our human capacity.
  • Because the number of our enemies is beyond our control.
  • Because the battle has become God’s size.
  • So that we would not take credit and become boastful and proud.
  • We need to reckon that it is by God’s grace that we are where we are and not by our own strength.

Ps 124:1-3 ¶ “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side,” Let Israel now say-

2 “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, When men rose up against us,

 3 Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us;

  • Sitting down means to let God take control over the happenings of your life.
  • Sitting by God’s right side means to take refuge under the wings of God.

WHILE YOU SIT, GOD IS IN ACTION

Psalm 18:6-10

6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry came before Him, even to His ears.

7 Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken, Because He was angry.

8 Smoke went up from His nostrils, And devouring fire from His mouth; Coals were kindled by it.

9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down With darkness under His feet.

10 And He rode upon a cherub, and flew; He flew upon the wings of the wind.

  • While you rest, God deals with your enemies
  • While you seat, God levels the opposition party to your favor
  • Some kind of way, the next time you see your enemies, you realize that you are positioned higher than them by God’s doing.
  • Those who wanted to finish you are now under your feet.
  • The obstacles are removed without you doing anything. All the credit is due to God.
  • God causes the order of things to change, the first become last, and the last become first.

Ps 91:14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

BE A POISED CHRISTIAN WHO WAITS ON THE LORD

  • Being unable to sit by God’s right hand is a sign of lack of trust in God.
  • Pride is the reason why some children of God are trying to steal the credits that belong to God for their wellbeing.

Ps 37:5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

Jer 9:23 ¶ Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;

24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.

CONCLUSION

  • I don’t know what you are going through in life as we speak.
  • Are you exhausted yet in trying to fight this battle alone?
  • You will never know true victory until you let go and let God take over.
  • When God is behind the steering wheel of your life, you can rest and take a nap because he is the flawless Captain who can assure you a safe arrival to your destination.
  • Remember that your battle as a child of God is the Lord’s battle.

Ps 121:4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand.

6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul.

8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.

AMEN!
