NAVIGATING THROUGH LIFE WITH THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AS OUR GPS

Ro 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

INTRODUCTION

• In the last 100 years, we have seen an explosion in technology.
• No matter how technology literate you are right now, if you don’t keep on learning to stay updated, within a decade, it will be as if you knew nothing.
• When I came to the States, having a beeper was a big deal.
• After a few years, having a cell phone became the big deal, regardless how gigantic they were.
• Shortly after, having a smart phone became the demand of the day.
• I don’t know if you guys remember the blackberry days.
• One of those fascinating technologies that emerged in that time frame was the GPS.
• I had to wait for Black Friday to buy my first GPS.
• These days are long gone; everything seems to have a GPS in it now.
• As we understand the GPS’s technology and its indispensability in our daily lives, we Christians can realize that we’ve been on God’s GPS long before mankind came up with the invention.
• There is a mechanical aspect of salvation which is stated in Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
• There is also a practical aspect of salvation whereby God the Holy Spirit instills in you the will of God in every situation.
• Ro 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
• Being led by the Holy Spirit is the indication that one is a child of God.

THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE BELIEVER

John 15:26 ¶ “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. (NKJV)

Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

• God never intended for us to do it alone.
• The Holy Spirit is the one who enables us to safeguard the new nature that God has placed in us.
• We all need to get familiar with the Holy Spirit so that we can distinguish His voice from that of the devil.

Romans 8:26 ¶ Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

THE BELIEVER IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1Corinthians 3:16 ¶ Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

1Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

• when we understand that we do not belong to ourselves it enables the Holy Spirit to do His work in us with no hindrances.
• The Holy Spirit is the boss and we are the servants.
• Our hearts are to always be pure because of the presence of the Holy Spirit in us.
• The Holy Spirit is very gentle. When we offend God, He is saddened within us.
• When we deliberately continue to refuse to listen to His promptings, The Holy Spirit gets quenched and shuts down His operations within us.  

THE HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERS US FOR SERVICE TO GOD

Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

• When we are compliant to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to have full control over our lives, He uses our faculties to render great services to the Kingdom of God.
• The first disciples were able to turn the world upside down with the good news of the Gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OUR TUTOR

Luke 12:11-12 “Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say.

 12 “For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

• As we grasp the concept of letting the Holy Spirit to become the GPS in our life, we can begin to discern the voice of the God.
• Though He may not speak audibly to you, you can always hear him in your spirit.
• Sometimes we experience a war from within, because the Holy Spirit is trying to tell us which way to go and the flesh is resisting Him.
• The Holy Spirit controls the very word we utter when we are under His guidance..
• Even if you were dragged to court for the cause of Christ, the bible says, you do not need to rehearse a plan of escape, for The Holy Spirit will provide the right words to use at the precise moment.

THE HOLY SPIRIT COMMUNICATES DIRECTLY TO OUR SPIRIT

Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

1Corinthians 2:13-15 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

THE HOLY SPRIT DISPATCHES THE BELIEVER WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO

Acts 10:19-20 ¶ While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you.

 20 “Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

Acts 9:

 10 ¶ Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”

 11 So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying.

17 And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

CONCLUSION

• The same Holy Spirit that we read about in the Bible is the same that we Christians have at our disposition.
• The same wonders we read in the Bible can also be manifested in our lives if we allow the Holy Spirit to have the full control over us.
• The same way the Holy Spirit could give detail instructions to the first century believers, the same can be happening to us when we learn to distinguish His voice.
• The wonders that God promised would be the portions of the believers are still possible by the power of the Holy Spirit.
• Don’t get lost in life while the Holy Spirit is readily available to assist you as a GPS.
• The Holy Spirit only guides the believers in the path of righteousness yet He doesn’t want to violate your will.
• The leadings of the Holy Spirit will usher the obedient believer to the shores of heaven.
• Don’t miss out to have a much fulfilled journey in life by allowing the Holy Spirit to assist you in the navigation.
• 1Co 2:10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
